Spring Checklist
We have some activities planned for the spring Jasper courses, but need to know what students have access to and what we need to provide students. This is really helpful for us for planning purposes and shouldn't take longer than 1-2 minutes. Please complete this form: https://forms.gle/pkFB5zWoaJ4tZrtH8 Almost Halfway There Please check PowerSchool for updated grades to make sure there is a strong finish to the spring semester. As a reminder, 50% of the students' final course grade in the Jasper courses will be the Marking Period 2 grade so please do everything you can to get those grades as high as possible. In American Studies, there will be a final reflection coming up which will ask students to reflect on race relations in the U.S. since the Jim Crow Era. In English, there will be a mini project coming that is more of a narrative reflection on their own lives. New Courses, New Schedules In a few weeks, all students will experience a significant change in their schedules. In Jasper, students will move into Global Science Inquiry and Design & Development. Outside of Jasper, students will start new courses for the second half of the year. For any students that are returning to hybrid and have concerns or questions about how to find classrooms, please reach out to Mr. Mihalik or your teachers for that assistance. Looking Ahead to the Spring: Global Science Inquiry Preview
This week, I'd like to share with you a preview of what Global Science Inquiry (GSI) will include next semester. As a reminder, the Jasper students currently have American Studies 1 and English 9. Next semester, they will move to D&D and Global Science Inquiry (GSI). GSI is the foundational science course at EHS. After taking GSI in 9th grade, students will move on to take Biology in 10th grade. GSI explores human health, different ecosystems and resources, and the dynamic relationships that exist between people, those places, and all the things that come from there (resources). This 4-minute video gives you a sneak peak at the projects coming up next semester. Course Registration Process The course registration process at EHS is a long process, but it has begun. The Jasper teachers met with students last week to talk about some recommendations for next year. I have also talked to students about some elective courses. One of the best parts about EHS is our wide variety of courses we offer. It is a great opportunity to explore interests/passions, or take courses that might reveal an interest that students did not know existed. If you have any questions about electives, graduation requirements, or just 'what should I take and when?' please do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Mihalik at [email protected]. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to this since it really depends on each individual student, goals, background, interests, etc... Since course registration has begun, this also means that I will be communicating to current 8th graders about Jasper the week we return after break. Happy Holidays! On behalf of everyone involved with Jasper, I wish you all a safe, healthy, and restful holiday! |
