Frequently Asked Questions and/or Urban Myths related to Jasper

Myth #1:  Students who go through Jasper will have a tougher time getting into colleges because of the transcript.
As you can see, the transcripts are identical.  Our students will be Emmaus High School students - Jasper is not its own school.  American Studies 1 CP is American Studies 1 CP.

Colleges will not receive a transcript and have to figure out 'what is Jasper?'  Our students will have a transcript from the highly respected Emmaus High School.

Even though the transcripts may be identical, there are going to be ways for Jasper students to stand out during the college application process.  Jasper students are going to have experiences to speak about in an interview or write about in an essay.  Jasper students are going to have local connections that are going to serve as references for colleges and jobs, in addition to the teachers that will know them so well.  Jasper students will have a high school experience that is unique and meaningful.  There are several ways for students to separate themselves from the rest of the crowd when it comes to college admissions, but being part of something unique and truly meaningful is definitely a great way to stand out.
Maybe Myth #2: I will just wait and see how this goes.  Perhaps I'll go into Jasper my sophomore year.

If we get 100 students for the first year and everyone wants to stay in the program, there are no more spots available.  The only way that students will have the ability to enter in later years is if there are open spots remaining.  Right now is the only time that it's in your control whether or not you want to be part of this program.
Myth #3: If I'm in Jasper and it's not what I thought or it's not going well, I'm in it for all 4 years.
This is completely false.  We want to do what is best for each student whether it's Jasper or not.  If it's not going well, students can resume a traditional course load, but you should be prepared for different teachers and different teaching styles.
Myth #4: I want to be a high school athlete so Jasper might not be a good idea.

Good news - we want you to be a high school athlete too!  In fact, several Jasper teachers and administrators are coaches for our high school teams so we certainly understand and encourage participation in athletics.  Even though Jasper is project-based, we want to provide time in class to work on those projects.  There are always going to be "crunch times" in high school, but we definitely don't expect our projects to interfere with after school activities.
Question #1: Will I meet all the graduation requirements if I'm part of Jasper?

Absolutely!!  Jasper will build in the required credits to graduate and leave kids with elective periods to take other courses of interest to them.

Question #2: Is Jasper a STEM program?
No, Jasper is not a STEM program or a Humanities program.  We offer courses in both departments, but we know kids have so many different interests.  We get it - and we want to accommodate those interests.  There will be ways for students to embrace their interests with choice as to how to do certain projects.  We also want to give students opportunities to take courses outside of Jasper at EHS in areas of particular interest.
