What does the 4-year plan look like?
Students in the Jasper Learning Initiative will have an identical report card and transcript like all other Emmaus High School students. The main academic difference is the way in which the students are taught and assessed. In traditional classrooms, students might do projects, but the final assessment of student progress is usually measured by a chapter/unit test, midterm, or final exam. In Jasper, there may be multiple traditional assessments, but the primary assessment of student learning is through their projects. Jasper students will not have traditional midterms or finals.
After 4 years of participating in the Jasper Learning Initiative, students are going to have a portfolio showcasing their work and learning. As part of portfolio development, students will not only focus on the outcomes, projects, or products, but also reflect on the process and experiences. |

Jasper students have a wide variety of career interests and it is not a program limited to students with interests in STEM or Humanities. Emmaus High School has an incredible amount of electives for students to take and our Jasper students can pursue those interests/electives in open blocks not occupied by Jasper courses.
Students in the Jasper Learning Initiative must meet the same graduation requirements for all Emmaus High School students. We will work with students during Hornet Homeroom to make sure they are on track to meet all graduation requirements.

Our goal is that we will prepare all students for college, but we recognize college is not the goal for every student based on their chosen career path. We will also prepare students to enter a career right out of high school. We hope that our students will graduate with experiences to talk about in college/job interviews, portfolios or projects, and they will have references from school, community, and business.
How will this program affect the transcript?
The transcript won't be any different for students in Jasper. The transcript will simply list all of the courses taken and we don't call our courses anything different. American Studies 1 CP is called American Studies 1 CP. The only way that Jasper students' transcripts are different is because they took the Design & Development course in 9th grade that is only offered to Jasper students.
With the transcript being the same, you might be wondering how colleges/universities will even know the students were in Jasper. There will be so many opportunities in the college application process for this come to the surface. Students will have a portfolio of everything they created/accomplished in 4 years that can be shared with colleges. Students will be able to list all of the additional experiences they had because of Jasper and the internship experience will certainly stand out. There will almost certainly be topics to discuss in an interview or through essays required as part of an application.
